"Every person will find the right way towards God for himself or herself, and what may be the right way for one may be completely wrong for another. Therefore you must not suppose that you have to follow or become like Muhammad Subuh. You must become your own self and you must develop your inner self if you want to find the way to God. You must not follow or imitate anyone else, because you must find your own way to God. Usually, if there is a teacher, he teaches his followers to do exactly the same as he does in order to reach what he has reached. But this is really wrong, because not only between a teacher and his followers but even between two brothers of the same parents there is already a big difference; not only in outward appearances but also in their character and in their whole being. So surely you can understand now that what is the right way for a certain teacher to find God is not necessarily the right way for his pupils."

Introduction | A Brief Explanation about Subud
Subud is an international, spiritual association of men and women who share an experience known as the latihan. Thousands of people from all cultures and backgrounds are Subud members today: Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians, Hindu's and even those with no particular religion practise the latihan alongside one another. So In essence, Subud is not a new religion nor a sect of any religion; nor is it a teaching. It is only a symbol for the possibility for mankind to follow the right way of living.
Subud is an abbreviation of Susila Budhi Dharma. These words are really a symbol of the self of a human being. The first word, Susila means to act humanely. It describes someone with a soul, an inner feeling, that is human. It describes someone who helps others, who cares for others, who works to put right a bad situation, who helps those who have less than they do; someone who loves other human beings and who does not discriminate between one person or another, because everyone is one - they are all human beings. And having that attitude, having that feeling, opens the way for such a person and makes it easier for him or her to get everything they need to live in this world. The second word, Budhi, signifies that the power of God is already within the self of a human being - not God, but the power of God, and this power of God is not only within human beings, but is within all natures and creatures that God has created. The third word, Dharma, is the complete surrender of a human being, or any of God's creatures, to the greatness of God with patience, acceptance and a willingness to let go. More...
What one experiences in Subud is an awakening of one's own inner self. This is received spontaneously in the spiritual training of Subud — the "latihan kejiwaan" or "latihan" as it is often called — which has its origin in the Grace of Almighty God.
Because the latihan is a gift of Grace and not a teaching, it serves as a companion to whatever religion a person might have, for it enables a human being to feel God's guidance in life and to see that guidance in the teachings of God's Messengers and Prophets. More...
Subud is not a New Age psychological self-help technique or self-improvement program. The aim and purpose of Subud is nothing more or less than to surrender and submit to the Power of God with patience and sincerity and then to receive and follow whatever may be His guidance and direction as it arises spontaneously from within.
Subud is in more than 70 countries and welcomes members of all races, religions, and nationalities. Subud International Cultural Association (SICA) and Susila Dharma International (SDIA) are its cultural and social/humanitarian affiliates. Subud Enterprise Services (SES) and Subud Youth Association (SYA) act as Subud support associations for Subud entrepreneurs and young people respectively. Subud supports itself and its cultural and social endeavors through voluntary contributions and its own enterprises. More...
There is generally a three month waiting period before new members are re-connected with this contact with the Power of God — "opened" — in Subud. The waiting period gives people interested in joining Subud the time and space to make a thoughtful decision about whether they really wish to come into Subud or not. It also inwardly prepares them to be able to receive the contact at the moment of their opening. More...
